Siren Operator

The Siren Operator was born on Arden Island and grew up close to the sea. As a child, he was always drawn to loud, sudden sounds. Foghorns, slamming doors, the creak of the harbor cranes in the early morning. Music never really interested him. Ask him to hum a song and he won't know what to do. Ask him about the sound of a warning bell and he can talk about it for an hour.

He now has one of the newest jobs on the island. The air siren that was recently placed on the cliffs, gets tested on the first day of every month, no matter the weather. The Siren Operator is the only one who can use the newly installed siren.

People often ask how the siren can be heard on the radio. It's actually simple. A microphone is placed outside the studio and picks up sounds from outside. So when the siren goes off, all citizens can hear it on their radio device as well.

The siren is still new to Drift Bay, and most people don't fully understand why the island need it. But it gets tested every month, without fail. As the Operator likes to say while standing in the wind with a stopwatch in hand:
"You can only be prepared".
